VET PRESCRIBED MEDS

As an educated sphynx owner, you may want to know more about the medicine that may be prescribed for you pet.


Here is a list of meds and what their uses are.  We have included dosages that we have been prescribed in the past.
Please note that this is for informational purposes ONLY and all Rx dosages should be prescribed by your vet.

Rx USES SHELF LIFE DOSAGE
Albon Treatment of coccidia, tonsillitis, pustular dermatitis, pharyngitis, anal gland infections, bronchitis, abscesses, pneumonia, wound infections, cystitis, bacterial enteritis, metritis, and pyometra caused by Staphylococcus, Escherichia, Salmonella, Klebsiella, Proteus or Shigella organisms sensitive to sulfadimethoxine. Year 1ML per 2lb of body weight as an initial dose, followed by .5 teaspoonful per 2lb of body weight daily for 7-10 days.
Metronidazole
(Flagyl)
250mg/10ml
 Antibacterial & antiparasitic.

Giardia, Inflammatory bowel disease
 Fridge 7 - 10 days 1cc per 1lb for 5 days with food
Doxycycline
100mg/10ml
Broad spectrum antibiotic.

Upper resp, lyme, bordatella, chlamydia, urinary tract infections
 Fridge 3 days 1st .25cc per lb no food & 12 hours .10/lb & then daily for 7-10 days

Amoxicillin
250mg/10ml
Broad spectrum penicllin antibiotic.

Soft tissue bacterial infections, gastrointestinal, skin infections, urinary tract infections, some upper respiratory infections.
 Fridge 14 days 1cc per 2.5 lbs for 7-10 days every 8 hours w/o food
Erythromyicin
250mg/10ml		 Antibacterial for a narrow range of bacteria.

Strep, staff infection, skin infections, pneumonia, bordatella, lepto, chlamydia		 Fridge 14 days 1cc per 5 lbs every 8-12 hours for 7-10 days

Tylan 200
 Mycoplasma, Bordetella
 Year .05 - .2cc per 10 lbs for 3 days
Panacur

 Hook, round, whips, tape Year 1cc per 5 lbs for 3 days - 5g tube/
.1cc per 7 lbs for 3 days from 25g tube
Pyrantel
(Strongid T)

 Pin, round and hook Year 1cc per 10 lbs or .10 /lb once a week 2 - 3 weeks

Ronidazole

 Tritrichomonas Fridge 7 - 10 days 30mg per 2lbs twice a day for 2 weeks.  Repeat dosage 2 weeks later.
Clavamox
 Broad spectrum antibiotic.

Soft tissue infections.
 Fridge 7 - 10 days
 1cc per 10lbs twice a day for 10 -14days for urinary tract 0r 5-7 days for other things
