It must of been Bigglesworth from the Austin Powers movie when the sphynx cat first intrigued us. We quickly had to learn more about having a hairless sphynx kitten of our own. We fell in love with the breed in the mid 90's before we were married, Zach adopted a sphynx kitten for a pet. His name was Mojo.
As time went on, we got another sphynx for a pet. He had one eye and his name was Horus. Many of our friends and family quickly feel in love with our boys and in order to save them from being cat-napped, we purchased a couple breeders from local catteries and had a couple litters to share the love. As most of our family were dog lovers; it was easy for them to convert to a breed of cat as loving as the sphynx.
Mojo lived with a friend and died at about 13 years old. Horus died in February 2010 at the age of 10 years old of feline lung cancer. Our first breeders are still with us and with a good friend in Canada.
Beeblebrox Sphynx is a home-based family cattery in the midwest with 2 locations in Michigan in Canada. We also travel regularly to different areas including northern Michigan and Florida where we own vacation/rental homes and often make arrangements to personally delivery kitties to those areas.
Our goal is to produce healthy, happy sphynx kittens while preserving the sweet and lovable personality traits and fun, active temperment and of this amazing breed of cats. We breed for quality and strive to conform to sphynx standards outlined by CFA and TICA. We do have a nice foundation of cats and are continually improving our lines. We are very diligent and are currently enhancing our practices in developing a system for tracking long-term pedigree identification/research and genetics.
We actively show our cats in CFA in the Great Lakes region and work with other reputable sphynx breeders in CFA and TICA. We typically have at least 1 litter per female breeder per year and with 8 females in our family, you can be assured to find a furless kitten with us. All of our cats live in a home environment. They are part of our family and they sleep in our beds. We have separate quarters for nursing queens and studs and the ability to provide special care for cats that need to have their own space. Our cattery is cleaned daily and a full time assistant is at our home daily to help maintain a cleanly and safe environment.
Our breeders undergo HCM scanning every 12-18 months and are blood typed and DNA tested for genetic issues and attributes. Our sphynx kittens are sold to pet families and occasionally to reputable National/International breeders.
Contrary to popular belief, breeding is not a profit making endeavor. It is a full time, expensive hobby. Many breeders we have crossed paths with do breed strictly for profit and do not show their cats or strive for breed improvement in the areas of conformation and health. We are not one of those breeders. All proceeds from the sale of our pet quality kittens goes back into the cattery and towards practice improvement and exhibition expenses.
I retired from the Technology industry in 2008 from a high level position at AAA directing the development and maintenance of AAA.com and my husband is currently an AVP for a large national financial institution. I hold a BSA in Art Education and a Masters (MBA) in Management Information Systems. I am also a certified Massage Therapist. Our strong educational and professional backgrounds help us in the areas of cattery management, knowledge attainment and ethics and clearly separates our cattery and practice from those ran by unprofessional backyard breeders. Ironically, we do find raising sphynx kittens and cats to be much more rewarding than any of our formal professional endeavors. Our children enjoy it very much also!
